Troon has been chosen to manage Reading Country Club in Reading, Pennsylvania. The company’s Troon Golf division will handle golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage as well as sales and marketing.
The daily-fee club opened in 1923 and features an 18-hole, par-70 golf course designed by Alexander Findlay that spans 6,120 yards. The course offers a diverse array of holes that appeal to all skill levels. Reading Country Club has hosted multiple renowned players in its time, such as Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Ben Hogan and LPGA legend Betsy King. Nelson served as the club’s head professional from 1937 to 1939 and even won the 1937 Masters and 1939 U.S. Open during his tenure.
Its historic status was officially recognized in 2018, when the clubhouse and golf course were added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Bishop House is an original stone building dating back to 1761, and the Tudor Revival-style clubhouse was built in 1931 after a fire destroyed the original building in 1930.
The club has multiple dining and event venues for the public to enjoy, including Jack’s on the Green; the Fairway Lounge, which also houses a golf simulator; private dining in the exclusive 1923 Room; and Mulligan’s Café. The property was purchased from Exeter Township in 2024 by the Gulati family, who have led and paid for extensive renovations to modernize the property while honoring its history.
“We’ve made tremendous progress restoring this historic property and honoring its legacy, but we also recognize the opportunity to elevate it even further,” said Charles Gulati, co-owner and general manager of Reading Country Club. “Troon’s expertise, resources and commitment to excellence will help us enhance course conditions, strengthen the guest experience, and ensure the club’s continued growth and success.”
Troon continues to have a successful year in acquiring management contracts. It recently made deals to manage Hunting Hills Country Club in Roanoke, Virginia and Las Colinas Golf Club in Queen Creek, Arizona. Its portfolio consists of 950-plus locations in 45-plus states and 40-plus countries, including operational responsibility for 575-plus 18-hole equivalent golf courses.
