Concert Golf Partners acquired two golf courses in Texas, its first acquisition in the state. Northgate Country Club and Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, previously owned by private club industry veteran Dan McIntyre joined Concert’s portfolio in November.
The acquisition brings Concert’s portfolio to 32 private clubs, which helps further its goal of preserving and enhancing private clubs. The company has stated that it expects to never have to sell any of its courses.
McIntyre said that he looked at a broad range of buyers, including owner/operators, before choosing Concert.
“It is obvious that Concert Golf is committed to preserving and enhancing the culture that I worked hard to create at the Clubs,” McIntyre said. “Their experience and efficiency throughout our interaction made the decision easy.”
Northgate Country Club was established in 1983 and is one of North Houston’s premier golf clubs and is the centerpiece of the upscale Northgate Forest community. Northgate features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, as well as an executive five-hole course named the “Fast-Five,” eight lighted tennis courts, three pools, and a clubhouse for member dining, social events, and Sunday brunch.
Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club is located 45 minutes north of Northgate on Lake Conroe and opened in 1976. Walden Golf Club has been recognized as the best course in the Houston area by Golf Digest and the 5th best in the state of Texas. In addition, GOLF Magazine once ranked the par 5, 11th hole as one of the top 500 holes in the world. Holes 11 – 13 are located on a peninsula and their notorious difficulty has led locals to refer to them as the “Walden Triangle,” a nod to the Bermuda Triangle. Its renown has afforded Walden the opportunity to host significant events over the years, such as the TGA South Amateur Championship and Women’s Texas Cup, as well as the annual “Golfers Against Cancer” fundraiser, which McIntyre had a soft spot for.
“Over the last several years, I’ve hosted an annual tournament for Golfers Against Cancer at Walden, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research,” he said. “I was concerned about the future of this event once I retired, and when I brought that up with the Concert team over dinner one night, they immediately agreed to continue hosting it at no cost to the organization, and added that commitment to our purchase agreement days later.”
