Towa Golf Club in Santa Fe, N.M., has expanded its golf complex to 36 holes with the opening in August of the Hale Irwin-Bill Phillips-designed Valley Nine.
Owned by the Pueblo of Pojoaque Native American tribe, Towa also includes three other 9-hole layouts: the Boulder, Piñon (also designed by Irwin) and Butterfly courses.
The setup gives the operators the flexibility to work on the courses without hindering overall playability of the clubs. Currently, the Boulder is under renovation and will open on June 1, 2010. Following its re-opening, the Piñon will be closed for remodeling.
The Towa courses are part of the Buffalo Thunder Resort, which includes a 390-room Hilton Hotel, luxury spa and fitness facility, restaurants, entertainment venues and a casino.
