Robert Jones, president of GSI Executive Search and Ethos Club & Leisure, died April 4. He was 68.
Jones was a respected leader in the private club industry, spending more than 40 years shaping its direction. He was best known for his 20-year tenure leading Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona, one of the country’s premier private clubs.
During his time at Desert Mountain, Jones oversaw more than $82 million in club amenities and $230 million in real estate development, while managing 679 employees across nine clubhouses and six golf courses spanning 11,000 acres.
“His depth of knowledge was second to none and his insights were treasures,” GSI said in a statement. “Behind the scenes, Bob was dedicated to a singular concept: integrity. In every interaction, he emphasized and ensured that integrity, honesty and respect were foremost. In every sense of the word, Bob was a gentleman.”
After Desert Mountain, Jones began a second chapter in his career, co-founding Ethos Consulting with Randy Addison. The firm focused on advisory services for private clubs and hospitality properties and later acquired GSI Executive Search, expanding its reach across the industry.
Jones also advised on multiple club projects, including The Woodlands, Canyon Ranch, Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, Old Greenwood and The Club at Las Campanas. Earlier in his career, he led Northwood Country Club and Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas.
Jones earned numerous industry distinctions, including Certified Club Manager, CMAA Honor Society and CMAA Certified Chief Executive. He also served as president of the CMAA Texas Lone Star Chapter.
A frequent speaker on club and hospitality topics, Jones was also a regular moderator at the Golf Inc. Summit, where he helped guide industry conversations and share insights with attendees.
“Bob built this company on a foundation of strong values and set us forward on a path that honors hard work, genuine connection and honesty,” GSI said. “As we carry his legacy forward, we know Bob will continue to inspire our team and the broader industry for years to come.”
