Heritage Golf Group acquired The Club at Cheval in Tampa Bay, Florida. The private club is located within the gated Cheval community and becomes Heritage’s 42nd property nationwide and its ninth in Florida.
The Club at Cheval features an 18-hole golf course designed by Steve R. Smyers, as well as a recently renovated clubhouse and restaurant, nine Har-Tru tennis courts, two pickleball courts, a full-service fitness center and a temperature-controlled pool. The club also offers it members services such as fitness, tennis and pickleball programming for all skill levels and hosts a youth summer camp offering premier golf instruction and programming designed to grow the game.
Jim Oliver, chief operating officer for Heritage Golf Group, said that expanding their presence in Florida, and Tampa specifically, has been a priority for the company.
“The Club at Cheval is a natural complement to our portfolio, and its proximity to TPC Tampa Bay, Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, and our four other Southwest Florida clubs makes it a strong addition,” he said.
Heritage already has plans for capital improvement at the club, the bulk of which will focus on a multi-million-dollar renovation of the golf course. Some of the proposed improvements include greens renovation, bunker enhancements, tee box expansion, a redesign of the practice facility’s short game area and laser leveling of the driving range tee area.
Heritage will provide members with reciprocal access to other local clubs during the renovation process. Additional improvements elsewhere at the club will be undertaken with feedback from club memberships and focus groups.
