Details, the largest golf course operator in Portugal, has taken over the management of its first property outside of Portugal, the resort formerly known as Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa in Italy. Details will oversee day-to-day operations and development of the property, including strategy, positioning, marketing, sales and communications.
The current number of courses in Details’ management portfolio now totals 13, including Vilamoura Golf, PGA Aroeira Lisboa, Troia Golf, Monte Rei, Palmares Ocean Living & Golf, San Lorenzo and Vale Pisão.
Donnafugata, located in southeastern Sicily, opened in 2009 and features two 18-hole golf courses along with a luxury hotel and resort amenities. It hosted the Sicilian Open in 2011 but closed in 2020.
Details is eyeing a 2027 relaunch of the facility and plans to transform the venue into a premier upscale resort destination that combines hospitality and golf into a cohesive, premium offering. Both 18-hole golf courses will undergo a comprehensive renovation and redesign as part of the process.
“The addition of the former Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa to our group of golf venues represents a defining step in our international growth strategy,” said Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO at Details. “Expanding beyond Portugal for the first time is not only a landmark moment for our company but also a reflection of the strength and ambition of our platform.”
Details said the investment at Donnafugata is expected to be one of the largest golf resort redevelopment projects in Italy in recent years, with the company aiming for the reopening of the two courses to help position Sicily as a broader golf destination for international travelers.
