Construction of the Tiger Woods Dubai design at Al Ruwaya in Dubai has been delayed, according to a report by CNN International.
The delay will in turn push back the opening of the course from a previously announced September opening to April 2010.
A spokesperson for the project told CNN that the project was not delayed, but that its opening would be announced “in conjunction with IMG and Tiger Woods.” Six holes will reportedly be opened in September, with the remainder ready for play next year.
The first phase of the huge and ultra-expensive project, to include the course, a golf academy and driving range, were originally scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year. A second phase, consisting of a hotel and gated village of premium residences, was set for completion by the second or third quarter of 2010.
The reported delay in the Woods Dubai project is endemic of current conditions in Dubai. The CNN report said real estate consulting firm Colliers International indicated that property prices in Dubai had fallen 41 percent during the first quarter of this year.
A shortage of global financing and job opportunities for prospective homebuyers and tenants in Dubai were blamed for the decline.
