Sunrise Company buys Andalusia CC

Sunrise Company acquired the Andalusia Country Club in La Quinta, Calif., with plans to build more homes in the golf community.

The Palm Desert-based company has developed 12 golf course communities and more than 15,000 homes in Southern California, and hopes to build more homes around Andalusia. A sale price was not disclosed.

Randall Bone, CEO of Sunrise, told the Desert Sun newspaper that robust home sales in the region — including at Andalusia and Toscana Country Club — led to the transaction. Sunrise is building around 150 homes at Toscana Country Club.

“We have seen the market very strong down here, especially in the last few years,” Boone told the Desert Sun.

He said it is unusual for his company to acquire a golf community that another builder started.

The transaction includes the golf course, country club facilities, land to develop an additional 250 homes, and 377 acres nearby.

T.D. Desert Development LP, which developed the Rancho La Quinta Country Club, sold Andalusia Country Club. It is a subsidiary of Drummond Company, a mining, coal and real estate company.

Andalusia, designed by Rees Jones, opened in 2006. The developers originally planned for two golf courses, with the second to be built on the 377-acre lot. But home sales lagged after the recession began in 2008.

Sunrise developed Indian Ridge in Palm Desert and co-developed Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, PGA West in La Quinta and Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage.
