Sierra Golf acquires muni, 12th course in portfolio

Sierra Golf Management, a small, but growing management company based in Chowchilla, Calif., acquired the Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club in Olivehurst, Calif. from The City of Marysville for $801,500. Sierra Golf purchased it through the city’s request for proposal process.

The former Country Club had been under a long-term lease agreement with Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club Inc.

“We see this as a property that we can continually improve,” said Dan Bacci, Chief Operating Officer for Sierra Golf Management. “It already has a great layout; it just needs some much needed TLC.”

Sierra Golf Management was founded by PGA Golf Professional Jeff Christensen in 1994 and has been slowly adding golf properties in Central California. With Plumas, it manages 12 courses and has maintenance contracts with six more.

“We see our company as one of the most balanced portfolio’s in the golf business” Christensen said. “We are not a one-dimensional company; this will make 18 courses in our portfolio which include ownership, lease agreements, management and maintenance agreements. That’s what makes us successful in today’s very competitive market. With our financial strength, our large array of specialized equipment and a marketing plan that is proven, we see nothing but great things for this golf course for a very long time.”

Sierra Golf plans immediate capital improvements to Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club, including improvement of the irrigation system, bunker enhancements, upgraded maintenance equipment and the purchase of new golf carts. It will also start to slowly remodel the Clubhouse. This will include remodeling the bar, new menu changes, new flooring and new outside furniture. Improvement of the practice facility is also high on the list.

“This is an owned property for us and with that will come slow but constant changes in the agronomic conditions, food and beverage and outside events,” said Bacci. “This is one of the most beautiful properties we have ever taken over.”
