Lithuania: Starwood plans €300 million in resort hotel improvements

The owners of the Le Meridien Vilnius Hotel plan to invest approximately €300 million in the property over the next three to five years.

Situated in Lithuania’s capital city of Vilnius, the hotel is a part of the Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts chain, which is controlled by New York-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Roughly €80 million has already been invested into the hotel, €43 million of which was used to construct an 18-hole, championship golf course. The course is scheduled to receive an additional €7 million in upgrades prior to its scheduled opening in May 2009.

Additional investment dollars will be put towards a recreation center, tropical garden and a spa. The hotel will itself will receive enhancements enabling it to accommodate 1,000 guests, which would reportedly make it the largest in eastern Europe.
