KemperSports has capitalized on its success with Chambers Bay and will now manage two other golf courses owned by Pierce County, Wash. The management company finalized a deal in May to manage Lake Spanaway and Ft. Steilacoom golf courses.
Located in Tacoma, Wash., Lake Spanaway opened in 1967. A classic Pacific Northwest golf course, it was designed by Vernon Macan and Ken Tyson. The course has a long history as a championship venue, hosting numerous regional and national USGA amateur tournaments. Chambers Bay hosted the 2015 U.S. Open.
In addition to the golf course, Lake Spanaway features a 3,500-sq.-ft. clubhouse with pro shop and full-service restaurant and bar.
Located just down the street from Chambers Bay in Lakewood, Wash., Ft. Steilacoom is a 9-hole, par-34 golf course opened in 1951. It serves as a popular beginner and junior golf venue and offers Footgolf leagues for non-golfers.
“We have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with Pierce County over the last decade as we helped to build and launch Chambers Bay,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We look forward to continuing that relationship and expanding our work in Pierce County to include Lake Spanaway and Ft. Steilacoom.”
In addition the managing the other two golf courses in the Pierce County portfolio, the county has extended its agreement with KemperSports for the continued management of Chambers Bay.
