Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind., is expected to become the fifth property in the growing Dormie Network of private clubs.
Victoria National president Barry Vaughn confirmed in a letter that the club was being sold to Omaha, Neb.-based ownership group headed by Zach Peed for an undisclosed amount.
The course owner, the Suddath Cos., wants to focus its efforts more on the proposed residential community surrounding the property and its other related businesses, Vaughn said in his letter.
Suddath, headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., had acquired Victoria National in 2010 from the estate of its founder, Terrance Friedman. The club, which features a Tom Fazio-designed course opened in 1998, is located on the site of a former strip mine and includes dramatic landscape, native vegetation and spring-fed lakes.
Peed and his family operate four other clubs as part of the Dormie Network — ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Neb.; Dormie Club in West End, N.C.; Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio; and Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke, Va.
The latest acquisition is part of Peed’s strategy of establishing a chain of private designation courses aimed at attracting executives and corporate entitles for retreats and other events. Peed has indicated that his goal is to own up to 20 clubs over the next decade.
