Back 9 Golf & Entertainment set for July opening in Indianapolis

Back 9 Golf & Entertainment is planning to open its first location in Indianapolis in July. Construction began on the 58,500-square-foot facility in August of 2021, which will feature 75 climate-controlled golf bays and a 3-story driving range.

The facility was announced in 2020 under the name Flying Tee, but the name was changed and the marketing shifted to reflect its new position as a competitor to TopGolf, which has only one location in the area. Back 9 will feature a beer garden, outdoor music pavilion, balconies, party rooms and VIP suites, a full-service kitchen, a coffee bar and more.

Back 9 uses ball-tracking technology similar to what one might see on television, with a trail arcing behind the ball. The owners claim that they can track up to 6,000 balls at once, and can do so in foggy, rainy, or snowy weather. Guests can also golf virtually on a number of famous courses from around the world, or participate in other games that leverage the ball-tracking technology.

The developers of the venue are positioning the facility as a fourth downtown stadium, given its location on the banks of the White River a mere mile southwest of Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts NFL team. Aside from the aforementioned capabilities, the facility can also host large groups for events such as weddings, business meetings, parties and more.

MWA MasterBuilders LLC, Indy Golf Party LLC and Prince Alexander Architecture LLC are working together to develop the venue along the riverfront.
