European Golf Design’s first course in Russia, the PGA National Course at Zavidovo Lake Resort, has started construction.
Developed by Russian real estate and development group OPIN, the project will include up to 5,000 residential dwellings, two marinas and a retail center as part of the Zavidovo Lake Resort.
Local builder Geokam is constructing the course, which is approximately 130 km northwest of Moscow. The course will be operated by UK company Braemar Golf, with the first 18 holes scheduled to open in July 2011.
Another 9-hole course is also scheduled for construction in the future next to the PGA National Golf Academy, a fully equipped teaching and training facility.
While the Zavidovo Lake Resort course is the first of European Golf Design’s projects to begin construction in Russia, the firm has two other projects in the detailed design stage in the country.
European Golf Design is a joint venture between the European Tour and IMG.
