A 27-hole luxury golf course is envisioned as part of a 1.6 billion yuan resort development in Sanya by the Chinese investment company Antaeus Group.
The resort will feature a luxury, seven-star hotel that will span more than 210,000 square meters and be operated by Ontario-based Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. It will also include an upscale yacht harbor and Asia’s largest marine park.
Located on Hainan Island, which sits off the southern coast of China, Sanya has seen tourist activity increase dramatically in recent years. More than 5 million tourists visited in 2007, up from less than 1.8 million as recently as 2001.
Plans are said to be in place for development approximately 20 five-star hotels in the region.
