Tiger Woods and development partner The Flagship Group announced plans in October for Woods’ third course design project.
Punta Brava, a private golf and ocean club on the Mexican coast near Ensenada, will be the first oceanfront design for the world’s No. 1 player.
As an architect, Woods currently has two courses in the works, a mountain-top design for The Cliffs Communities near Asheville, N.C., and Al-Ruwayah Golf Club in the Tiger Woods Dubai development in the United Arab Emirates.
Plans for the private communityabout 65 miles south of San Diego include 40 estate lots, 80 luxury villa residences and a 20-villa private hotel for residents and guests, with a variety of other amenities. The private club and community are expected to begin construction in 2009, with the villas, golf course and amenities scheduled for completion in 2011.
Principals of The Flagship Group include co-founders Red McCombs, Brady Oman and Hal Jones and partner Brian Tucker.
Woods’ design plans include 17 holes on or overlooking the ocean, eight of which play over the water at some point tee to green.
