Sticks for Kids program off to fast start in China

The Sticks for Kids program sponsored by the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA) made significant inroads in its inaugural year in China this year.

Supported by GCBAA international member Forward Management Group, a leading golf course construction company in China, and CITIC Bank, the Sticks for Kids program sponsored 90 golf camps for an estimated 5,000 Chinese youngsters in its 2009 first year. Organizers plan to sponsor 30 additional camps in 2010.

The Sticks for Kids program provides golf instruction to children ages 6 to 15, as well as life skills training in golf safety, etiquette, integrity, discipline and environmental stewardship. Each host program receives 10 sets of golf clubs from the GCBAA Foundation for use by the children in the program on site.

The Sticks for Kids program has been established in the United States prior to expanding outside U.S. boundaries, with programs in all 50 states and at eight military bases. Over 200,000 children have participated in the programs to date.
