The operations arm of one of the largest golf construction firms in the U.S. has taken over management of The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind.
Landscapes Golf Group (LGG) will operate the private club, which includes a Jack Nicklaus-designed course that has won numerous Top 100 honors since its opening in 2005.
LGG is the management division of Landscapes Unlimited, which has built more than 800 courses and originally developed the club in partnership with Troon Golf and a local development group. It currently manages 20 courses, including 18 owned by Landscapes Unlimited.
The 400-acre golf community project has been plagued by financial difficulties since its opening. As part of the takeover, however, Landscapes Unlimited refinanced the bank loan and paid down significantly on the balance in order to lower the debt service. It also created a separate entity to buy 73 unsold lots of the residential development.
The goal, said Landscapes Golf Group President Mike Jenkins, is to create a closer link between the residential development and golf club.
Landscapes Unlimited also plans to make improvements to the course. Other amenities at the club include an 18,000-square-foot clubhouse with swimming, tennis and fitness facilities.
