The recent wildfires in Australia caused severe damage to Horsham Golf Club in Victoria.
The club’s recently opened $2 million clubhouse was destroyed, as was a machinery shed containing the club’s mowing equipment. About 90 percent of vegetation on the course was burned and fairways, tees and greens received varying degrees of damage, according to superintendent Tim Warren.
Two other clubs, Broadford Golf Club and Hidden Valley Golf and Country Club, were threatened at times, but escaped damage.
A number of golf clubs in Australia have staged fund-raising events to raise funds for victims of the brushfires.
