Billy Casper Golf has signed a long-term lease with the City of Wilmington, Del., to operate Ed Oliver Golf Club. In addition to the Ed Oliver course, Casper also leases Rock Manor Golf Course from the city and leases Delcastle Golf Course in Wilmington as well.
As part of the lease arrangement for the Ed Oliver course, which is on a more than 100 year-old property that originally housed the Wilmington Country Club, Casper officials will spend more than $1 million for capital improvements at the course. Work will include bunker improvements, tree pruning, new signage and course markers, new golf carts and new maintenance equipment.
The course is named for the late Ed “Porky” Oliver, a Wilmington native and a player on the PGA Tour in the 1940s and ’50s. It has been named the “Best Municipal Course in Delaware” by Golf Digest, and was listed among the top 50 muni courses in the country by the same publication.
