Newton, Mass.-based Southworth Development has purchased the controlling interest in the Kintyre Development Co. in Scotland.
Kintyre is the developer of the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club as well as the Ugadale Hotel & Golf Cottages in Machrihanish and the historic Royal Hotel in Cambeltown, Scotland. Southworth since 2006 had been a minority shareholder and investor in the company and had served as a consultant and manager in the Machrihanish Dunes development project.
The Machrihanish Dunes course, designed by David McLay Kidd, is scheduled for an official opening on July 21 following a May soft opening.
Southworth will also be moving ahead soon with restoration of the Ugadale Arms property, as well as the sale of the fractional free-hold golf cottages, according to Southworth Development founder and CEO David Southworth.
Southworth also recently purchased the 184-unit residential community of Creighton Farms just outside Washington, D.C., including The Club at Creighton Farms, an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed course formerly known at the Ritz Carlton Club at Creighton Farms. Southworth’s golf management arm, Southworth Golf, will manage the private club’s operation.
