Scottsdale Golf Group purchased River Crossing Country Club in San Antonio, Texas in May, its first acquisition outside of Arizona. The purchase price was not disclosed.
“We thought this was a wonderful opportunity to acquire River Crossing Country Club,” said Shelby Futch, founder and CEO of Scottsdale Golf. “We previously managed the club during its opening phase from 2000 to 2005.”
River Crossing was developed by Charlie Patterson as part of the River Crossing development. Patterson has since sold all 1,000 home lots, with 600 having been built on.
Joseph Gaffney, senior vice president of operations at Scottsdale Golf, said the course is in great shape and it made sense for it to be the company’s first course outside of Arizona, given the prior management of the facility.
Futch founded Scottsdale Golf Group in 1983 with the opening of John Jacobs Golf Schools.
Scottsdale Golf now owns six golf courses, including Painted Mountain Golf Resort, Hillcrest Golf Club, Red Mountain Ranch Country Club, Legend Trail Golf Club and Corte Bella Golf Club. It also manages Seven Canyons Golf Club in Sedona.
“My philosophy is to purchase and hold properties, and I believe the key to managing a successful membership based club is addressing the long term needs of the membership,” Futch said. “Each course we own is unique and we design custom plans for every property. We are very hands on.”
