River Forest Country Club in Pennsylvania sold

Four partners bought River Forest Country Club in Freeport, Penn. Right before it was set to be sold at a sheriff’s sale, the Valley News Dispatch reported.

"We want to bring River Forest back to prominence in the area," said Gary Duster, one of the new owners.

The golf course was bought by Wailing Holdings, LLC, and CJ Betters Co., which acquired River Forest's debt from PNC Bank.

The property was scheduled to be auctioned at a Westmoreland County Sheriff's sale on March 1 as a result of a $3.9 million court judgment sought by PNC Bank against River Forest Estates, River Forest Golf Club and River Forest Partners.

The course has a restaurant and banquet hall. It was built in 1966. The news owners plan to add bunkering and may change or rearrange the holes. They also hope to add a swimming pool and tennis courts to make the site a "full-destination country club," Duster said.
