Golf Inc. Wins Award, Readership Sets Record


Golf Inc. magazine will be honored in January with the magazine industry’s most prestigious award for its Spring 2010 issue. This comes on top of 95% growth in digital readership over the prior year.


The Eddie Awards, considered the “Pulitzer Prize” for magazines, will honor Golf Inc. as the best magazine issue in the Recreation/Sports/Outdoor category. It will learn whether it won first, second or third place on January 13th.


“That was our first issue with the new editors,” said Jack Crittenden, president and Editor In Chief of Golf Inc. “To be honored right out of the gate is a testament to the talent of our editorial team and the long-term vision for Golf Inc.”


Golf Inc. switched to a quarterly publication schedule with the Winter 2010 issue, and introduced new editors with the Spring 2010 issue.


The award follows increased digital readership for Golf Inc. An average of 9,959 industry leaders have read the digital version of Golf Inc. in 2010, up from 5,119 in 2009. This unprecedented growth is on top of 12,000 print readers — bringing total readership to 22,000 — more than ever before for the 20-year-old magazine.


“The changes that started with our Spring issue have led to amazing growth in readership,” Crittenden said. “Our editorial staff is experienced and respected for the highest-level of integrity and quality.”


New editors include: Bruce Buckley, a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award winner, and former editor with McGraw-Hill and Golf Inc. from 1999 to 2004; Robert Vasilak, editor and publisher of  the Golf Course Register for the past 19 years; and Scotland-based Trevor Ledger, the former Editor In Chief for Golf Course News International. Michelle Weyenberg took over as Managing Editor and Shannon Harrington took over primary design duties as Art Director with the Spring 2010 issue.


The Winter 2011 issue will feature Golf Inc.’s annual Development of the Year competition, profiles of Donald Trump and Steve Lesnik of KemperSports, an owner’s guide to turf maintenance, and a feature on out-of-the-box ideas to restart the golf business.
