Plans have been presented to the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council in Great Britain for a new golf course to be built on a former quarry site on the outskirts of Cheadle.
The proposal by Spectre Development has been recommended for approval by the district’s planning officers, but faces ongoing opposition from local residents wary of the construction traffic and the amount of soil, crushed rock and waste materials necessary to turn the quarry site into a golf course.
The quarry site’s previous owner, the Tamar Group, had previously submitted similar plans which were defeated by local opponents who feared that the site would merely become a dumping ground for refuse. Spectre has insisted that the site will become a golf course, as well as a clubhouse and 70-car parking lot.
