Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., is seeking to build interest in its not-yet-completed fourth course by offering a preview this summer.
Beginning April 1 and running through Oct. 1, a 10-hole loop of the Tom Doak and Jim Urbana-designed Old Macdonald course will be open for preview play, well in advance of the full course’s scheduled grand opening on June 1, 2010.
Only 32 players per day will be allowed on the course for the $110 greens fees.
Old Macdonald joins the original trio of award-winning courses at Bandon Dunes – Bandon Dunes by David McLay Kidd, Pacific Dunes by Tom Doak, and Bandon Trails by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.
Old Macdonald is located just east and north of Pacific Dunes, wrapping around the north edge of Pacific Dunes close to the Pacific Ocean. The course is named for revered course architect Charles Blair Macdonald, and while it is not a Macdonald “replica course,” many of its design and strategic features will remind golf history scholars of Macdonald’s designs.
