Triumph Golf purchased Longwood Golf Club from Century Golf Partners for an undisclosed price in May, the third Houston-area acquisition for the company in two years.
Originally designed by former pro golfer Keith Fergus and University of Houston golf coach Harry Yewens, Longwood has been in operation since 1995. The 27-hole course has been named one of the top daily fee courses in the Houston area, with rates at $50-70 per round for nonmembers and $45-60 for club members.
Triumph intends to keep the club open to the public while also investing in course and service updates.
“Longwood has one of the best layouts in Houston,” said Billy Sitton, founding partner of Triumph Golf. “Once we align the quality to the layout and support it with service, Longwood will be the place to play in Houston.”
Three former executives of ClubCorp — Billy Sitton, Mike Deild, and Michele Caroll — formed Triumph Golf in 2010. The company has four clubs. It acquired Pebble Creek Country Club, in College Station, Tex., in December 2012 and Cypress Lakes Golf Club in May 2012. Cypress Lakes is just five miles from Longwood.
Last year, Triumph invested a million dollars to open a fitness room and update the recreational facilities at Pebble Creek, including the pool and tennis courts. The fitness center features yoga and Zumba classes for members.
The company has already begun renovations at Longwood, with more planned for the future, including a teaching center that’s set to break ground this fall. Charlie Epps, a Texas Golf Hall of Fame fixture, will head the new instructional facility designed to focus on improving skills for young golfers.
Triumph is pursuing private and semi-private golf club acquisitions in the future.
