Ron Jaworski Golf — along with partners Ken Kochenour, Ira Lubert and Joe Williamson — acquired Downingtown Country Club in Downingtown, Pa. The seller was Adam Loew of J. Loew & Associates, son of the late Jack Loew, a well-known real estate developer in Chester County, Pa. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
Kochenour, founder of Philadelphia-based GF Management, will be working with Ron Jaworski Golf to manage the event space and restaurant.
Located in Chester County, Downingtown Country Club features a 6,619 yard, par-72 golf course designed by George Fazio and built between 1965 and 1967. George Fazio, the uncle of golf course architect Tom Fazio, was a runner-up in the 1950 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club.
No big changes or renovations are currently planned for the course or country club, BJ Jaworski told the Daily Local News, executive vice president of Ron Jaworski Golf and the son of the company’s namesake Ron Jaworski, former NFL quarterback.
“A lot of times a course is sold when there’s something wrong,” BJ Jaworski told the Daily Local News. “That is not the case here. Loew & Associates took great pride in the property and they should be commended for that. The course is in really good shape. We’re just going to see if we can put our little touch on it to make it a little bit better.”
The new property joins a portfolio of five other daily fee golf clubs owned and operated by Ron Jaworski Golf. The portfolio includes Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Galloway Township, N.J.; Honey Run Golf Club in York, Pa.; River Winds Golf & Tennis Club in West Deptford, N.J.; Running Deer Golf Club in Pittsgrove, N.J.; and Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood, N.J.
“We are very proud to add Downingtown to our outstanding collection of courses under the Ron Jaworski Golf umbrella,” Ron Jaworski said in a news release. “We invite all golfers to experience the golf course and take advantage of the many affordable membership and daily fee options available.”
Downingtown Country Club has also proven to be a popular wedding and event venue. It won the Wedding Wire’s Brides Choice award in 2013 and Couples’ Choice award in 2014 and 2015. The Club features a banquet space with a capacity of 300 and a pub-style restaurant.
