Jim Feeney, who owns two Charleston-area golf courses, acquired his third in late April — Dunes West Golf & River Club, in Mount Pleasant, SC.
Feeney bought Snee Farm Country Club in 2001 and added Rivertowne Country Club in 2012 for $2.6 million. The price for Dunes West was not disclosed.
“We are committed to the communities surrounding our clubs and look forward to the continued success with the collaboration of these fantastic facilities,” Feeney said. “More importantly, we look forward to enhancing memberships at all three clubs while offering fabulous golf and incredible dining experiences for our members and guests.”
John Wieland Homes and Wheelock Street Capital sold the course. John Wieland Homes was recently acquired by Pulte Group. It ranks among the country’s 100 largest homebuilders. Wheelock Street Capital is a private real estate investment firm that manages $1.4 billion of equity capital.
“Interest in the property was broad-based, both local and national because Dunes West is such a trophy property in the Charleston market,” said Terry Vanek of Leisure Investment Properties Group of Marcus & Millichap who brokered the deal. “Recipient of multiple “Best of” awards, designed by the iconic Arthur Hills, in an area ranked as one of the top tourist destinations in the US… truly one of the best golf assets we’ve had the pleasure to work with.”
Dunes West Golf & River Club is one of the best-reviewed semi-private courses in the Charleston area, and was the centerpiece amenity to one of John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods’ signature communities.
