Pine Burr Country Club – which includes the only golf course in Stone County, Miss. – will reopen in the coming weeks now that a group of local investors purchased the facility.
After previous owner Preston Carpenter announced earlier this year that he could no longer afford to run the club, and would auction it off in foreclosure proceedings, Brent, Roger and Whitney Hickman stepped in and bought it to maintain it in its current use.
The country club opened in 1970, and in addition to the 6,500 yard 18-hold golf course, includes a swimming pool and tennis courts. The grounds sit on approximately 120 acres of property, according to the Stone County Enterprise newspaper.
A senior citizens golf tourney was set for March 20 as the first event under the new ownership, and the new operators are already offering memberships to the course.
