KemperSports to manage St. James Golf Resort, Bear Creek in Arizona

KemperSports has added two courses to its portfolio —  St. James Bay Golf Resort in Carrabelle, Fla., a town that is 50 miles southwest of Tallahassee, and Bear Creek Golf Complex in Chandler, Ariz.

St. James Bay Golf Resort is considered one of the top resort communities in the Panhandle region.

“St. James Bay Golf Resort has remained a popular destination for nearly 15 years,” said John Green, President of Lynnwood Development. “We look forward to working with KemperSports and implementing their best practices to enhance the experience for our guests at the resort.”

Under new ownership, the cornerstone of the resort community is the 18-hole championship golf course. Certified as an Audubon International Certified Signature Sanctuary on behalf of the courses commitment to environmentally-efficient agronomy practices, the Robert Walker-designed golf course provides strategic options throughout the fun and inspired bay front layout.

The par-72, 6,600-yard public golf course is well-known as one of the most finely-conditioned golf courses in the state and includes water hazards on most holes. The course was built to provide a strong test of golf for low-handicap players who choose to challenge the hazards and bunkers while delivering a resort golf experience for casual golfers.

Built in 2003, the golf course remains one of the top golf courses in the state and was ranked in 2016 by Golf Advisor as no. 19 on its list of the best courses in Florida.

The resort has four golf villas surrounding the clubhouse and Crooked River Grill as well as residential condominiums overlooking the golf course. The condos offer recently-remodeled two and three-bedroom units with kitchen and private pool access.

“We are proud to manage St. James Bay Golf Resort,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “It has a strong reputation and is well regarded in the market. We look forward to working with the ownership and staff to elevate all areas of the guest experience and create a truly memorable place.”

Bear Creek Golf Complex is KemperSports’ first managed property in Arizona, a state that has been dominated by Troon and OB Sports. The Bear Creek Golf Complex includes 36 holes of golf designed by Jack Nicklaus Design Company, practice facility with PGA professional instruction and The Bear’s Den Bar & Grill.

“Bear Creek has enjoyed a great reputation as one of the most popular public golf venues in the southeast Valley,” said Dan Strand, principal, Las Corrientes, LLC. “We look forward to collaborating with KemperSports and leaning on their more than 30 years of experience in the golf industry.”

Located 25 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, Bear Creek’s golf offering is highlighted by The Bear Course as the championship par-72 layout can stretch to more than 6,800 yards. The Bear Course delivers an “inland links” golf experience with firm and fast playing conditions across rolling desert terrain and strategic bunkering.

The executive Cub Course provides a sporty alternative to the Bear Course’s championship layout. At just 3,500 yards and a par-59 routing, The Cub Course offers a fun alternative and a great golf course for beginning and junior golfers.

The complex also includes a robust practice facility with grassed driving range, short game area and two practice putting greens.

“We are proud to be managing our first property in the highly-competitive Phoenix golf market,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We look forward to working with ownership to enhance the golf experience at Bear Creek.”

KemperSports will be tasked with implementing proven sales and marketing initiatives to engage with local golfers to ensure that the golf courses remain a positive hub for the Easy Valley golf community.
