GIS bulks up with education sponsored by ASGCA and GCBAA

The American Society of Golf Course Architects and the Golf Course Builders Association increased their commitment to the Golf Industry Show, signing on as presenting partners.

While both associations have been partners since the show’s founding in 2005, the increased commitment will include educational sessions, which they previously did not offer.

“ASGCA has been a proud supporter of GIS for more than a decade,” said ASGCA President Jan Bel Jan. “This increased role provides greater opportunity for our members to both give and receive education, and will allow attendees to learn more from golf course architects. The golf industry is growing in new ways, so education for golf course decision makers is a must. We are excited to help golf courses of all types be more successful.”

The announcement comes four months after the National Golf Course Owners Association announced it would move its annual meeting and educational sessions from the GIS to the PGA Show. In 2020, that will mean the NGCOA will host its annual meeting Jan. 20-22 in Orlando. The 2020 GIS is Jan. 25-30 at the same location.

The GIS once also included the Club Managers Association of America. That association withdrew after the 2010 show, and attendance dropped from 16,156 in 2010 to 11,700 in 2018. It rebounded slightly in 2019. The Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America is the primary operator of the show.

“The Golf Industry Show is always evolving, and we are looking forward to the additional opportunities for all attendees that will come with the increased involvement of GCBAA and ASGCA,” said GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans. “Although they have both always been an important part of the GIS family, we are excited to work with them as presenting partners.”

The NGCOA remains a partner with the GIS, along with the National Golf Foundation and the United States Golf Association.
